Meet Your Moment: A Guide to Groovy’s Three Mocktail-Inspired Drinks

Some days call for something bright and social. Others are asking you to turn the volume down. And eventually, there’s that part of the night when the couch starts looking like the best seat in the house.

That’s the idea behind Groovy’s three mocktail-inspired drinks: Social, Pineapple Tiki; Unwind, Moscow Mule; and Nightcap, Blackberry Mojito.

Each has its own flavor and functional ingredient blend, so choosing between them isn’t just a question of pineapple, ginger, or blackberry. It’s about finding the drink that fits the moment.

Here’s what makes each one different.

Meet the Groovy Drinks

Drink Flavor Functional Ingredients The Moment
Social Pineapple Tiki Kava, caffeine, ginseng, L-theanine, lion’s mane Getting together and staying engaged
Unwind Moscow Mule Kava, 5-HTP, GABA, lemon balm, lion’s mane Shifting into a slower pace
Nightcap Blackberry Mojito Kava, melatonin, chamomile, tryptophan, magnesium Settling into the evening

They share one ingredient, kava, but beyond that, the formulas go in noticeably different directions.

Let’s meet them one at a time.

Social, Pineapple Tiki: For When the Group Chat Becomes Actual Plans

Brunch. Dinner with friends. A backyard hang that somehow lasts six hours.

Social, Pineapple Tiki is Groovy’s bright, tropical option, built around juicy pineapple and island-inspired flavor.

Its functional ingredient blend includes kava, caffeine, ginseng, L-theanine, and lion’s mane.

What's inside Social?

Caffeine is probably the most familiar ingredient here. It temporarily blocks adenosine receptors in the brain, which helps explain its well-established effects on alertness.

L-theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves. It has been studied in areas including stress and attention, both on its own and alongside caffeine.

Ginseng has a long history of traditional use, and preparations from certain species have been researched for outcomes including fatigue and cognitive performance.

Then there’s lion’s mane, an edible mushroom whose naturally occurring compounds have attracted interest in cognition and nerve-related research. Human research is still developing.

And kava, which appears across all three Groovy drinks, comes from a South Pacific plant with a long history of ceremonial and social use.

Put those ingredients together and you get the formula behind Social. But it’s worth keeping the science in perspective: research on an individual ingredient doesn’t automatically establish the effects of a finished beverage.

How to serve Social

Cold from the can works.

If you want to make more of a moment of it, pour Social over ice and add fresh pineapple and lime. We’ve also put together an easy Pineapple Tiki mocktail recipe for when the glassware is coming out.

No tiny umbrella required.

Although it certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Unwind, Moscow Mule: When Things Start Slowing Down

Are things picking up while you’re trying to wind down?

That’s where Unwind, Moscow Mule enters the conversation.

Its flavor takes inspiration from the crisp, spicy character of a Moscow Mule, with ginger and citrus notes that feel just as at home around a dinner table as they do during a quiet evening in.

The functional ingredient blend shifts considerably from Social: kava, 5-HTP, GABA, lemon balm, and lion’s mane.

What's inside Unwind?

5-HTP is a compound the body can make from the amino acid tryptophan. It sits along the biological pathway used to produce serotonin. Supplemental 5-HTP has been researched for areas including mood and sleep, although evidence remains limited, and it can interact with medications and other substances that affect serotonin.

GABA, or gamma-aminobutyric acid, is a neurotransmitter involved in regulating activity in the nervous system. Oral GABA supplements have attracted research interest around stress and sleep, although questions remain about how consistently supplemental GABA produces those effects.

Lemon balm is a member of the mint family with a long history in herbal preparations. Specific preparations have been investigated in relation to stress, mood, and sleep.

Lion’s mane makes another appearance here, alongside kava.

The formula is different from Social for a reason. These aren't simply three flavors wrapped around the same ingredient blend.

How to serve Unwind

A cold can and a comfortable chair are enough.

For more of a cocktail-style serve, pour it over plenty of ice and finish with fresh lime. A copper mug looks the part, but your favorite glass works just fine.

Our Moscow Mule mocktail recipe keeps the whole thing intentionally simple.

Nightcap, Blackberry Mojito: For the Slower Part of the Night

Eventually, even a good evening needs somewhere to land.

Nightcap, Blackberry Mojito takes things in a darker, fruitier direction, pairing blackberry and mojito-inspired flavor with kava, melatonin, chamomile, tryptophan, and magnesium.

This is the formula in the lineup most clearly associated with the nighttime part of the day.

What's inside Nightcap?

Melatonin is a hormone the body naturally produces as part of its sleep-wake timing system. Its production typically rises in response to darkness, helping signal that it’s nighttime.

Chamomile is the daisy-like flower behind one of the most familiar bedtime tea traditions. Researchers have studied different chamomile preparations in relation to sleep and relaxation, although evidence doesn’t establish it as a treatment for insomnia.

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid obtained through food. The body uses it for several purposes, including as a starting material in pathways involved in serotonin and melatonin production.

Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in hundreds of enzyme reactions and plays established roles in normal muscle and nerve function, among many other processes.

Nightcap also contains kava, completing a formula that looks quite different from both Social and Unwind.

Again, those ingredient facts shouldn’t be turned into a promise that the finished drink will make someone fall asleep or treat a sleep problem. Think of Nightcap as part of an evening ritual, not a treatment.

How to serve Nightcap

Nightcap can go straight from fridge to can, but blackberry, lime, and fresh mint make an easy upgrade.

Our Blackberry Mojito mocktail recipe shows how to turn it into an evening serve with little more than ice and a few fresh garnishes.

No elaborate bedtime routine necessary.

Social vs. Unwind vs. Nightcap: What's the Difference?

If you’re standing in front of all three, start with two things: the moment and the flavor.

Reach for Social when...

You want something tropical and bright for daytime or social occasions. Pineapple Tiki brings the fruit-forward flavor, while its formula includes caffeine, L-theanine, ginseng, lion’s mane, and kava.

Reach for Unwind when...

The pace of the day is changing and ginger-citrus sounds better than pineapple. Unwind leaves caffeine out of its ingredient blend and instead combines kava with 5-HTP, GABA, lemon balm, and lion’s mane.

Reach for Nightcap when...

It’s later, Blackberry Mojito sounds good, and you’re moving into the nighttime part of your routine. Nightcap is the only one of the three formulas that includes melatonin, along with chamomile, tryptophan, magnesium, and kava.

That doesn’t mean everyone will experience each drink in exactly the same way. Functional ingredients can affect people differently, and factors such as dose, individual sensitivity, medications, and timing matter.

The labels tell you what’s inside.

Your taste buds can handle the rest.

One Ingredient You'll Find in All Three: Kava

There’s one common thread running through Social, Unwind, and Nightcap: kava.

Kava comes from the root of Piper methysticum, a plant native to the Pacific Islands with a long history in South Pacific ceremonial and social traditions. Its active compounds are commonly called kavalactones.

That history is worth knowing because kava is more than a trendy addition to the functional-drink category. Its cultural use stretches back much further.

Modern research has also investigated certain kava preparations in relation to anxiety, but results from individual studies or extracts shouldn't automatically be attributed to every kava-containing product.

Kava also deserves some safety context. It can interact with sedating substances, and some kava-containing products have been associated with rare but serious liver injury. If you're taking medications or have questions about whether kava is appropriate for you, check with a healthcare professional.

Functional should still come with context.

Three Flavors, Three Different Moments

One of the more interesting things about the Groovy lineup is that choosing a drink doesn't have to begin with a list of functional ingredients.

Sometimes it can just start with what sounds good.

Pineapple Tiki is bright and tropical.

Moscow Mule brings ginger and citrus.

Blackberry Mojito goes darker, fruitier, and mint-inspired.

From there, you can look at what’s actually inside each formula and decide which one makes sense for the moment.

That feels a lot more useful than asking which one is “best.”

There isn't one drink that needs to win.

They're built for different parts of the day.
